The Alberta Association of Midwives states as an objective, “To strive for the highest standards of care for those persons who wish to receive the services of a Registered Midwife within the Province of Alberta.”
Pursuant to section 28 of the Health Disciplines Act, an individual may file a complaint against a Registered Midwife to the Registrar of the Midwifery Health Disciplines Committee who will investigate the matter.
The Registrar’s contact information is:
Ms Heather Cameron, Registrar
Tel: (780)422-2733 Email: heather.cameron@gov.ab.ca
Before filing a complaint, the Alberta Association of Midwives recommends the following:
- The Complainant is asked to direct their concern(s) to the midwife/midwives involved directly;
- If this does not bring about a resolution the complainant may contact the Practice Lead, the owner/operator of the practice, to mediate between the complainant and the midwife;
- The Complainant may also direct their complaint to Alberta Health Services Patient Relations.
