Alberta Registered Midwives practice evidence based, women centered maternity and new born care and are an established part of the Alberta health care system.
Registered Midwives listen, observe, educate, guide and care. We order and interpret tests and discuss results as well as screen for physical, psychological, emotional and social health and refer to specialists when indicated.
We catch babies. Registered Midwives are with women during pregnancy, labour and birth, normal and complicated.
Registered Midwives are fully funded under Alberta Health Services and are considered the experts in normal pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period.
Registered Midwives collaborate with each other and with other health professionals.
The Alberta Association of Midwives will continue to grow our base of Alberta Registered Midwives in both urban and rural settings.
Registered Midwives do home visits postpartum, help with breastfeeding and adjusting parents to life with a new baby.
The Alberta Association of Midwives will continue to educate and drive awareness and understanding of Registered Midwives and explain to Albertans how to access Midwifery services.
